World Autism Awareness Week

As you may know, Autism is a lifelong developmental disability. It affects how people perceive the world and interact with others. More than 1 in 100 people are on the autism spectrum, including an estimated 700,000 people in the UK alone.

Although everyone is different, people on the autism spectrum may be under or oversensitive to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colours, which can make everyday life extremely difficult.

We wanted to make a difference. We wanted to take the pain away from wearing clothes. We understood the discomfort that seams can create for both children and adults who suffer from a Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and how so many people have to wear their clothes inside out so that they can’t feel the seams against their skin.

So, hand in hand with The National Autistic Society in 2017 we created The Sensory Onesie - a onesie that has been sewn in a certain way so that the seams feel seamless. The care label is not sewn into the garment so there is nothing that causes irritation, even the zip is covered on the inside.

We also understand the importance of how the fabric itself feels and how each person has their own preferences on their choice of fabric for their sensory onesie. From our research the top favourite fabric choice was the super soft fleece, however some people preferred the organic cotton, whereas others liked the micro fleece.

We are, after all, all unique.
