Onesie Ready for the PSP Southampton Boat Show!

Onesie A'hoy     We're getting closer and closer and closer to the boat show and we're getting more and more excited as time goes by!I've put together some of my favourite sailing/boating facts to get you ready for the PSP Southampton Boat show;1. The basic difference between a boat and a ship is that boats are designed for rivers and inland waterways, ships for seas and oceans.2.  Steamboat Willie was the first Disney cartoon with sound, released on November 18, 1928, (which is now celebrated as Mickey Mouse’s birthday!)3. Although we like to think it, Pirates probably didn’t have talking parrots.4.  Vikings were thought of as Sea Pirates! Scandinavian Vikings were the first Europeans to reach America! Explorer Leif Ericson and his crew reached America around 1000AD, 400 years before Christopher Columbus. Experts estimate that Leif Ericson and his crew sailed a distance of approximately 11,000 km (7,000 miles) to reach America5.The first boats were simple rafts, made from logs tied together or canoes, made from dug out logs. 6. Rafts are meant to travel one way. They can be guided with a pole, but can’t be propelled.7.Ships are one of the oldest and most important means of transportation. For hundreds of years, people have sailed the seas to explore, to settle, to trade, and sometimes to conquer.8. Large oceangoing vessels are called ships; while all other craft are called boats. Various types of boats include canoes, rowboats, sailboats, and motorboats.9. The rear part of a ship or boat is called the stern.10. Some luxury yachts are over 70 metres (230 feet) in length with the longest examples reaching over 150 metres (492 feet)! The show, which takes place between 12th - 21st September 2014, is the perfect event for any avid sailor! You can even go on a little adventure yourself, by having a sail through our Sailing Onesies to see what little treasures you can find!
