We have recently received the lovely testimonial from the BBC radio DJ Zoe Ball. Zoe’s son Woody was sent one of our Where The Wild Things Are suits and as you can see from the testimonial he absolutely loved it!!

Initially the fleece fabric off-cuts were to be made into hats by the year 8 pupils. The fabulous colours and patterns are bang up to date and appealing, which encourages pupils to want to use them.

I thought that some off-cuts were large enough to make soft toys with and searched out a 70’s pattern, with 4 pieces and no gussets, to make up as a giraffe. A first pass was made to decide whether the pupils could manage the work, and to my delight some of the children spotted the finished giraffe on a bench.  It was love at first sight! In no time at all a class asked if they too could make giraffes. Initially they were going to be for themselves, but then the tragic events in Haiti unfolded. Money raising events took place in school but some of the class thought that all the money in the world could not replace a hug from a lost parent. The class wanted the orphans of Haiti to have a giraffe to cuddle. Through the off-cut fleece fabric we are able to send many giraffe cuddles to the children in Haiti with our love.

It has been decided to continue making giraffes, all of which will be sold to support charities. The next big push will be for Children In Need, it will probably be the first time that giraffes and a bear get along!

Through the gift of fleece off-cuts we have had a unique opportunity to help people we will probably never meet. To learn at first hand about the teamwork in a factory, skills, deadlines, marketing and costing. To think about the world beyond the town where we live.

With the smaller pieces of fabric we can make ‘Frog Beanbags’ in year 6. The smallest pieces are used to make ‘Clippy Mats’, this keeps alive the technique and domestic history of our area as well as affording a bit of time in the day to sit down together for a good ‘natter’!

Superhero Surprise for Fathers Day!

Officially supplying the launch of Where The Wild Things Are!

It is officially official! We are the supplier to Warner Brothers for the new release of the Where The Wild Things Are movie! To say we are chuffed is an understatement. As life long fans of the story we were itching to get a Max suit created the second we heard about the film – luckily for us all our customers (ie you!) were just as excited!

For those of you who do not know the story Where the Wild Things Are follows Max, an adventurous boy who feels misunderstood at home, as he escapes to where the Wild Things are. Max lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions and who are desperately longing for a leader to guide them, just as Max longs for a kingdom to rule. When Max is crowned king, he promises to create a place where everyone will be happy.

We hope that you will enjoy watching the film in your new all-in-one Max suit!

Following the fame of celebrity Big Brother and the Holiday Inn, they wanted to fine out how Kate has been doing over the Christmas period since they last spoke.

The famous housemates, including Vinnie Jones and Stephanie Beacham, donned adult-sized romper suits made in Ashington for one of their tasks.

The All in One Company only had about 24 hours to custom-make the suits but expect to benefit from the TV exposure.

The business was set up by Kate Dawson, who originally worked in child care.

Made-to-measure

Kate said she started the business six years ago after a nanny looking after her daughter said her sleep suit looked so comfy she would like one too.

At first she worked from home but in 2008 expanded to open a factory employing six staff.

The all-in-one sleep suits are made-to-measure (sizes go up to XXL men’s!) and basically look like giant baby romper suits.

However, the Celebrity Big Brother team opted for plain white suits for the housemates.

Part of the task involved the celebrities being pelted with things like cat food and custard and the producers wanted it to show up!

Vogue

Kate said it had been hard work to get the business off the ground and lots of people had told her she wouldn’t be able to do it.

She said: “It is very hard work. I’m at the factory sometimes 18 hours a day but it’s worth it.”

The company was named business of the year in the 2008 Wansbeck Business Awards and the sleep suits have also been mentioned on the Vogue website.

The news story hit the national press yesterday and today it appears to be an international story in USA and beyond.

If you’re disturbed by the rather abnormal notion of having a total stranger warm your hotel bed for you by laying in it, by all means pass this story by.

The Holiday Inn, which operates over 4,000 hotels worldwide, will offer a “human bed-warming service” for the next week to help keep guests stay warm inside, whilst it gets colder outside. This literally involves employees laying in your bed for five minutes before you get in.

Once your sheets are suitably warm, they climb out and you climb in. I didn’t quite have the nerve to ask Holiday Inn whether you could pay to have them hold you through the particularly frosty nights. After all, if you’re going to replace a hot water bottle, you might as well do it properly.

Each human bed-warmer wears — and I’m not making this up, I promise — special “toasting suits”, which are essentially dressing gowns which profess to maximise sheet-heating efficiency.

The complimentary service will operate as a trial in London’s Kensington Forum Holiday Inn, and must be booked for nights between 18 and 25 January, for sheet-toasting sessions between 9 and 11pm.

Assuming the trial is a not-at-all-creepy-in-the-slightest success, maybe you’ll see strangers in your hotel bed country-wide later this year.

We supplied some All in Ones to Big Brother which were used in a task called Kamikaze Karaoke on Sunday (17th January). The Kamikaze Karaoke task will be shown on Big Brother tonight.
