Onesie Celebrations; St George's Day
Happy St. George's Day!

Did you know that today is the 792nd St. George's Day?

That's right, the Council of Oxford declared April 23rd to be St. George's Day waaaaay back in 1222.

However, St. George didn't become the Patron Saint of England until 1348, and it wasn't until 1415 that St. George's Day was declared a national feast day and a national holiday in England. (Although after the union with Scotland at the end of the 18th Century, the tradition was not widely acknowledged and is no longer a national holiday.)

But that doesn't mean you can't celebrate! Countries that celebrate St George's Day include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, England, Georgia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia.

In England, St George's Day may be celebrated with Morris Dancing or a Punch and Judy Show. One custom includes flying or displaying the England flag. A lot of pubs, in particular, are known to display the flag.

One of the more traditional customs includes wearing a red rose in a suits button hole.

Pssst... Did you also know that the English Playwright Shakespeare was born on the 23rd April 1564 and he died on the same day in 1616, so the 23rd of April is also known as International Day of The Book.
